小さい頃は台風大好きでした（85年？相米慎二監督の「台風クラブ」も大好きでした）が、今では色々な予定を狂わせてくれるし、西日本に甚大な損害を与える事もあり好きでは無くなりました。

 

北太平洋で発生した熱帯低気圧が発達したものが「台風」ですが、なぜ「台」？感覚的には「大」ではないですか？

明治以前は「颶風（ぐふう）」という表記でした。これは中国の大風。

漢字は”あてただけ”ですね。「颶風」と「typhoon（タイフーン）」から「台」を持って来ました。

ではtyphoonは？

じつは（やっぱり）ギリシャ神話がもとだったりします。

王ゼウスなみに強く、地球や宇宙を破壊した最強の怪物で風の神々の父「Typhon（テュポン）」からです。

 

凋落久しいギリシャですが、ギリシャ神話は非常に面白く、英単語を覚えようとしたとき「単純に暗記していくのは無理！」と考え語源を調べ始めました。バラバラにし、音を合わせていくと元々の意味に辿り着ける事もあります（辿り着けなければ着けないで覚えるんですケド）。

すると途中でギリシャの神様に行き当たることがよくあります。まぁ日本の八百万程ではないですが沢山居ますからね。

勿論インド・ヨーロッパ語の一派ですから、その気になればイタリア語からフランス語、ドイツ語と一気に覚えて行けます！時間が無限にあればね・・・

人が言葉を覚えるときこんな方法では覚えないですよね。もっと効率的なやり方があった筈です。僕のやり方はマドロッコシ過ぎる・・・。勉強下手くそですね・・・。

 

I loved typhoon when I was a child(in 1985? the director Shinji Sōmai's"Typhoon Club" too). But i no longer loved it upset our plans and also be given the extensive damage to the West ,Japan.

Human beings do not remember in such a way when you learn the words.I was better that a more efficient way.
